Forgotten leaf

He's a different man, bathed in golden light,
Their joy's a perfect song, a truly lovely sight.
His smile is born of love, his soul is warm and deep,
This happiness he sows is ours to share and keep.

Farewell, my dear, may your joy never cease,
I was but a dream, bringing momentary peace.
A breeze in the summer, a fleeting, gentle sigh,
A frost in the garden, 'neath a moonlit sky.
I'll return to you when the autumn leaves fall...

I am the autumn leaf, the last to hold the tree,
A lonely, burning ember for the world to see.
I'll wait here for the snow, with a Decembrist's vow,
‘Til I'm just a memory, then and now.

Beneath the winter's veil, so silent and so deep,
That forgotten leaf…was the secret I shall keep.
